NLF opens animal shelter

Northern Light Foundation (NLF) held its official launch on 5th of March 2022 for the Northern Light Foundation Animal Shelter in Standerton.

The animal shelter is managed in collaboration with Kromdraai Kennels, on Kromdraai kennels premises.

During the launch, a colouring-in competition was held for children between the age of 3 and 10 years. More than 30 children participated in the competition. The winners were as follows; Simone Swart, Mia Janse van Rensburg and Conrie Roets.

During the launch, a bakkie load full of Dog and Cat food was collected that was donated by community members, as well as the Light Riders and Lone buddy Motorcycle Groups.

The purpose of the animal shelter is to help animals that live on the streets and do not have a home. The community is requested to drop off animals they pick up and see walking around at the centre. NLF will ensure that this remains the main goal and that the animal shelter does not become a place where animal owners who no longer want their animals just come to drop off their unwanted animals by putting strict processes and procedures in place.

The animal shelter currently has room to house about 4 dogs and 10 cats, the shelter is  already full. We would like to expand the capacity to help more animals, but for this we need the community’s help. Any donations in the form of building materials or finances can be made to NLF.

If there are community members interested in adopting the animals, the animal care centre can be visited within business hours at any time for adoption purposes.

“These types of projects can only be a success if the community becomes involved and takes ownership to ensure that animals that are no longer cared for can be looked after,” says Hillel Coetzer CEO of The Northern Light Foundation.
